Description

A battered Martian outpost serves as the last line of defense against an alien force whose tactics defy ordinary logic. The fleet’s morale is shattered, with mutinies and defections rampant, and conventional command structures have crumbled under the pressure. In this desperate environment, a newly formed branch of “extra‑rational” officers—dubbed the Psi Corps—offers a controversial edge: trained minds that can anticipate the enemy’s incomprehensible strategies through subtle psychic insight.

The story follows an aging psychologist tasked with guiding a skeptical commander through the uneasy alliance of hard‑won science and uncanny intuition. As the crew grapples with the strange new discipline, they must decide whether to trust these untested mental abilities or risk total collapse. The opening sets a tense, gritty stage where survival hinges on bridging the gap between cold fact and the mysterious powers that may finally turn the tide.
