Description

The story follows Sergeant John Dick, a disciplined officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, as he rides through the remote, wind‑blasted gorges of western Canada. His mission is to reach the Paquita Island Reservation before nightfall, but a wounded horse and a relentless storm already test his resolve. The vivid description of the rugged terrain and the mounting wind sets a stark, atmospheric backdrop for the adventure.

Just as the sergeant struggles through a narrow pass, he discovers a stagecoach stopped under a canopy of trees, its passengers held hostage by a band of ghost‑like rustlers clad in white cloaks. A hidden shooter fires a shot that grazes Dick, forcing him to dive behind his horse and assess the perilous ambush. The tension of the chase and Dick’s quick thinking promise a thrilling pursuit through the Canadian woods.
