Description

The Milford Sea Scouts, a fresh post‑war troop of eight eager boys, are guided by the seasoned Scoutmaster Armitage, a former naval lieutenant. With a modest treasury of barely sixteen pounds, they dream of owning a proper cruiser rather than the humble ex‑naval gig they’ve patched up and painted. Their ambitions clash with the reality of rising yacht prices and a shoreline that offers little room for boats.

Undeterred, the lads learn to master the fierce tides of Hurst Channel, navigate the narrow creeks of the Solent, and handle a clumsy craft that still manages to carry them over water. Their daily drills turn the coastline into a classroom, forging skills in seamanship, teamwork, and quick thinking. Each small success fuels their appetite for a larger, more seaworthy vessel that could take them on true holidays away from the coast.

When an unexpected opportunity arises—a chance to claim the abandoned schooner “Olivette”—the scouts see a possible shortcut to their dream. Yet the vessel is far from a ready‑made prize, and securing it will demand daring, resourcefulness, and the kind of camaraderie only sea‑bound adventures can forge. The stage is set for a test of courage that could change the troop’s fortunes forever.
