Description

Ruth Fielding spends a lazy midsummer afternoon in the shade of a vine‑covered summer house by the Lumano River, sketching notes while a gathering storm broods on the horizon. A sudden rustle in the foliage and the distant blast of a car horn pull her attention toward a dark maroon automobile that hurries along the road, hinting that something out of the ordinary is about to arrive. As the wind picks up and clouds roll in, Ruth’s curiosity pushes her beyond the safety of the garden and into the unfolding mystery that the storm seems to carry with it.

Drawn into the lives of the nearby coastal community, Ruth encounters rumors of a reclusive hermit living on the wind‑battered Beach Plum Point and a derelict vessel that washes ashore after the tempest. With her characteristic optimism and keen sense of responsibility, she begins to piece together clues, balancing school duties, friendships, and the urgency of the looming storm. Listeners will be swept along with Ruth’s blend of adventure and heart‑warming resolve as she strives to uncover the truth before the weather clears.

Best known as the name behind the Ruth Fielding and Betty Gordon books, this early 20th-century byline belongs to the Stratemeyer Syndicate rather than a single identified author. The result is a body of lively girls' adventure fiction that helped shape popular series reading for generations.
