Description

Peter is a sweet‑tempered, mixed‑breed pup who grows up under the careful guidance of his parents, Shep and Susy. They teach him the basics of good behavior—returning a stolen shoe, sharing a bone, and treating cats and smaller animals with respect—while showering him with the kind of affection that makes him the favorite of his litter. When the day arrives for him to leave the family nest, the goodbye is both tender and hopeful, as his parents whisper a quiet confidence that he’ll become a “leading citizen” wherever his new home may be.

The story then follows Peter as he settles into a bustling new household, learning the rhythms of farm life, the duties of a watchdog, and the simple joys of play. Interwoven with his own adventures are charming vignettes about a judge’s Airedale, a fire‑fighting spaniel, a loyal milkman’s dog, and many other canine characters, each illustrating the diverse ways dogs touch human lives. Together they offer a warm, illustrated celebration of loyalty, learning, and the everyday heroism of our four‑legged friends.
