In a tiny, thatched hut tucked deep in an ancient forest, a brother and sister live a simple, cloistered life. When the plaintive call of a cuckoo teases them from the canopy, curiosity pushes them beyond their mother's warning. Their barefoot trek through moss‑laden ferns and towering oaks soon turns perilous: a storm rolls in, wolves howl, and they seek shelter in a dark grotto. There, the boy blocks the entrance with stones while his sister huddles close, their fear palpable as night descends.
At first light they emerge, following a babbling creek that threads its way out of the woods. The water guides them to a wide meadow where cows graze and the air smells of fresh hay. Suddenly a tall, blue‑eyed trader named Gangusso appears, waving a red scarf and greeting the children as if he already knows them. His arrival promises a bridge back to civilization, yet the forest still whispers of unseen dangers.
