Description

Monica Beauchamp is a spirited fifteen‑year‑old whose fierce independence clashes with the rigid expectations of her aristocratic family. When her grandmother summons her back from the regiment’s move to Simla, Monica arrives with a swagger and a sharp tongue that test the patience of the household’s matriarch. Their tense exchange—filled with slammed doors, flashing hazel eyes, and a stubborn refusal to accept any guidance—sets the stage for a battle of wills that threatens to unravel the family’s carefully maintained decorum.

Against a backdrop of opulent drawing rooms and the distant stir of colonial life, Monica must navigate the pressures of duty, the gossip of a meddling governess, and her own yearning for freedom. As the older generation seeks to impose order, the young heroine’s defiant spirit hints at a journey where self‑discovery and the search for a place to belong become as compelling as the clashes that first bring them together.
