Description

The story follows the tidy and bustling household of lektor Tedelius, whose Sunday pilgrimages with his wife, six well‑kept children, and his scholarly routines have become a familiar sight on the streets of Sturegatan. Their orderly world is gently disturbed when the eldest daughter, Hervor, announces an engagement to the handsome Folke Hjelm, a newcomer who quickly draws curious glances as the couple strolls through Humlegården. The family’s modest expectations clash with the practicalities of finding a home, navigating loan‑shy finances and the ever‑present pressure to settle down quickly.

Amid the domestic choreography—grading papers under a green‑lampped lamp, the girls’ secret stitching of Christmas gifts, and the boys’ playful cannon battles—the narrative captures the warmth and weary humor of a middle‑class Swedish family in the 1940s. Small moments, like the lektor’s off‑hand advice to read the Nordisk familjebok, reveal a gentle satire of academic pretension while underscoring the tender bonds that hold the household together. Listeners will find a vivid portrait of love, ambition, and the everyday comedy of striving for a stable home.
