Transcriber's Note:
Halfway to Saturn on the aging freighter Wahoo, a crew of twenty—only two women—endures cramped quarters, stale air, and a never‑ending menu of whole‑wheat pancakes. The ship’s mechanic, a former full‑back turned reluctant technician, watches the crew’s petty feuds fester as the recycled atmosphere turns sour. With the mission’s funds stretched thin, Captain Muller runs a tight ship while the biologist Jenny Sanderson tries to keep the hydroponics alive, and the meteorologist Phil Riggs seems more interested in tormenting his mates than in science.
Against this backdrop of dwindling supplies and simmering resentment, the crew discovers a subtle but dangerous change in the ship’s life‑support system. As the air grows heavier and the taste of every meal worsens, the narrator must decide whether to confront the growing hostility or risk a mutiny that could end the journey before they even glimpse Saturn’s rings. The story balances technical claustrophobia with humor and the everyday battles of a crew teetering on the edge of survival.
