Bruce Gordon steps off a cramped electric bus and into the tangled streets of Marsport, a fledgling city clinging to a thin dome of air. A former cop, ring fighter and scandal‑sheet reporter, he’s been shipped off by Earth’s Solar Security after a reckless expose, his ticket to Earth ripped into pieces. With only a suit of airtight coveralls, a knife and a set of reader cards, he’s thrust into a world where every alley whispers of graft and survival.
The Martian slums are a patchwork of temporary structures that have hardened into deathtraps, a stark backdrop for the power games that pulse through the colony. Gordon’s assignment is ambiguous—a blend of spy work, police liaison and reluctant detective—forcing him to navigate corrupt officials, underground rackets and a restless populace. As he walks the cracked canals and confronts the city’s hidden factions, the reader is drawn into a gritty, near‑future frontier where loyalty is as thin as the atmosphere.
