Description

In the early 1910s a young man haunted by sleepless nights and a torrent of guilty thoughts turns to the sanctuary of the church, hoping its rituals might wash away the weight of his perceived sins. He immerses himself in holy biographies, kneels before an image of the Virgin, and begs for a miracle that will spare him from an imagined inferno. The intensity of his confession draws the quiet attention of an elderly priest, whose measured calm masks a far more calculating purpose.

As the monk guides the youth toward a life of monastic poverty, he demands the surrender of all worldly possessions and even the burning of forbidden texts that have fueled the boy’s restless mind. The flames become a stark symbol of both purification and oppression, leaving the young pilgrim torn between genuine repentance and the fear of being consumed by a dogmatic authority. His desperate plea for mercy sets the stage for a fraught journey, where the search for inner peace may lead him far beyond the cloister walls.
