Description

Hiram Strong steps off a rain‑slick train into the quiet of Pringleton, a tiny stop where only the stationmaster’s lamp glows. He carries a heavy bag and a promise of work at the newly bought Sunnyside Farm, facing a two‑mile walk past a burned farmhouse. The opening sets a stark landscape and a wry welcome.

In the shadow of the ruin, Hiram meets Miss Delia Pringle, who offers him a room, and the wary locals who test his resolve with practical jokes and blunt advice. He soon finds himself clearing corn, pulling wheat, and learning the hard truths of soil, weather, and farm economics.

The tale follows Hiram’s steady climb from uncertain arrival to confident steward of the land, weaving perseverance, friendship, and the timeless rhythm of agriculture. Listeners will feel the mud under their boots and hear the creak of farm life as he strives to make the soil pay.
