CHAPTER X THE MISSING PICTURES
Jimmy Evans is a lanky sixteen‑year‑old with a battered camera and a head full of ambition. After endless rejections from the local newspaper, he finally lands a brief interview with the hard‑nosed city editor, who tells him that a photograph needs “punch” – the right mix of timing, drama and a story that sells. Armed with that advice, Jimmy leaves the newsroom feeling both discouraged and oddly hopeful, determined to create the kind of image that could earn him a real job.
He roams the fog‑laden waterfront and the bustling streets of Brandale, chasing any hint of newsworthy drama that might spark his breakthrough. Along the way he reconnects with an old friend, whose casual greeting pulls Jimmy into a series of odd happenings around a dusty, forgotten darkroom. As he experiments with light and shadow, the young photographer begins to sense that the city holds secrets waiting to be captured – and that his next shot could finally give him the “punch” he’s been searching for.
