In a bustling village hall, Uncle Toni— the sixty‑three‑year‑old magistrate— presides over the annual Roser celebration. He gathers thirty heads of families, each representing a slice of rural life, from the hairless to the full‑headed, from the modest to the newly wealthy. His booming voice promises music, dancing, and a chance for young lovers to find a match amid the revelry, setting a tone of communal pride and good‑humored rivalry.
Two rival coblas, the seasoned Guixetayres and the sprightly Sastres, prepare their instruments— flute, tamborí, tenora, and fiscorn— for a spirited showdown on the village square. Vendors line the lanes with ribbons, sweets, and bottles, while children watch the decorated altar with wide eyes. The air hums with anticipation, as the villagers, officials, and mischievous youngsters await the first notes that will launch the day’s festivities.
