Description

Amid the tangled jungles of Brazil, a fledgling colony struggles to turn raw wilderness into a livable settlement. Director Sarno is swamped by endless demands—land surveys, food supplies, farming tools—and by the eager emigrants who cling to promised cash subsidies, hoping the money will be theirs forever. While the newcomers shuffle between temporary huts and unclaimed plots, the whole enterprise hangs on a fragile balance between hope and bureaucratic strain.

Enter Könnern, a determined newcomer who, after a fruitless hunt, climbs a rocky ridge to scout the valley below. From his lofty perch he sees Meier’s modest plantation, the bright roofs of Santa Clara, and the tangled forest that still blocks his view. With axe in hand he clears a path, carving out a personal outlook that hints at both opportunity and the inevitable clashes that will shape the colony’s future.
