Description

A warm summer evening finds Dan Carter, a spirited ten‑year‑old Cub Scout, out on the river with his friend Midge and Midge’s father, the Den Dad. Their small sailboat drifts lazily after the wind dies, and the growing fog turns the familiar waterway into a shadowy maze. As night falls, the trio wrestles with the chilly air and a sluggish paddle, hoping to make it back to the Cub Scout meeting before it’s too late. The quiet is broken by the distant roar of a motorboat, its lights hidden by the mist.

The speeding craft barrels toward the tiny dinghy, its reckless pilot intent on startling the youngsters. A sudden impact shatters the sailboat’s hull, sending water splashing in, while Dan and Midge scramble to keep their vessel afloat. Their quick thinking and teamwork turn a frightening encounter into a lesson in courage and responsibility. As the motorboat disappears into the darkness, the boys must decide how to get home and what the night’s unexpected adventure will mean for the upcoming river camp.
