In a creaking colonial house on the edge of the Australian bush, a ten‑year‑old girl known affectionately as Coproptop spends a stormy night listening to the wind howl around her four‑poster bed. Her parents are away in distant India, leaving her in the care of the stern housekeeper Mrs. Grudge, whose cold demeanor clashes with Coproptop’s bright, copper‑colored curls and vivid imagination. As the night deepens, the old bed seems to whisper tales of distant gardens and forgotten castles, urging the lonely child to dream beyond the walls of her secluded room.
When the wind finally carries a faint, mysterious call, Coproptop decides to follow the rustling leaves and hidden paths that beckon outside, stepping into a world where talking animals and enchanted breezes await. Her first steps lead her to an unexpected encounter with a mischievous albatross and a band of sea‑maidens, hinting at a series of daring quests across storm‑tossed seas and strange lands.
