Born Kaarlo Ilmari Kivinen in Pornainen on September 9, 1883, he wrote under the pen name Tiitus. He is remembered as one of the first notable Finnish-language feuilletonists and humorists, building a long career at Helsingin Sanomat.
From 1914 until his death in Helsinki on February 14, 1940, he wrote newspaper pieces that made the name Tiitus familiar to readers across Finland. In addition to his journalism, he published humorous novels and collections of stories.
His work is especially associated with light, satirical observations and comic storytelling. Even when writing about public life and social tensions, he was known for approaching his subjects with wit and an accessible style.
