In the early Ming dynasty, a brilliant young scholar named Zeng Xueshen leaves his well‑to‑do home in Wuchang to visit his elderly grandmother in Huangzhou. He is praised for his prodigious memory and handsome looks, yet his father worries about finding a suitable marriage match for him. The journey gives Zeng a taste of the region’s spring scenery and a chance to explore the world beyond his study.
While wandering the outskirts of Huangzhou, Zeng discovers a secluded nunnery famed for “four emerald beauties.” Inside, the nuns—each embodying grace and poise—perform quiet rites, and one youthful nun, Chen Cuiyun, catches his eye with a blend of innocence and quiet strength. Their brief, courteous exchanges spark a gentle tension that pulls Zeng between his scholarly obligations, familial expectations, and an unexpected, growing intrigue that promises to shape his future.
