Description

On a scorching July day in 1778, eighteen‑year‑old Fred Godfrey thunders across the Wyoming Valley, his heart pounding as columns of smoke rise and the crack of musket fire echoes in the distance. The valley, home to his family and friends, is suddenly threatened by an advancing enemy force, and Fred races against time, fearing he may arrive too late. His uniform, rifle, and the pride of a freshly commissioned lieutenant set the stage for a desperate race toward home.

Fred’s ambition was forged in the Continental Army, where his daring caught General Washington’s eye and earned him a junior command. When word reaches Washington that Loyalist and Native forces are marching toward the valley, the young officer is given permission to aid his community, though the high command doubts he can arrive in time. As he follows a stray horse, the sounds of battle grow louder, and every mile brings a fresh surge of dread and hope.
