Description

Set in a windswept valley where the narrow Trevorrick River carves a deep gorge between craggy hills, Wastralls stands hidden beneath the looming Dark Head. The old manor, once the seat of local justice, now serves as a quiet family home, its stone gateposts hinting at a proud, if faded, lineage. Amid the rolling sea‑breeze and the distant hum of St. Cadic Mill, the story introduces the Rosevear family—descendants of a once‑rich peasant who rose to prominence and whose legacy still shapes the community.

At the heart of the tale is Sabina, the sole heir to the estate, who inherits not only the land but the weight of generations’ expectations. As the three Rosevear cousins tend their farms and the valley’s secrets whisper through hidden caves and wreckers’ huts, everyday life is tinged with old superstitions and the lingering presence of the “Old Squire.” The opening chapters paint a portrait of a close‑knit, isolated community where history, nature, and family duty intersect, setting the stage for the choices Sabina must soon confront.
