Description

In the shadow of the sprawling elm known as the Liberty Tree, a restless band of Boston boys—some barely ten—gather each evening to trade bold ideas and whispered vows of resistance. Their meeting place, “Liberty Hall,” is less a building than a canopy of leaves under which they rehearse the language of defiance, recalling recent acts of outrage such as the tar‑and‑feathering of a local informant. The city’s streets pulse with the presence of red‑coated troops, their patrols a constant reminder that the British authority is both nearby and uneasy, while merchants quietly flout boycotts, inflaming the boys’ sense of betrayal.

Against this backdrop of simmering tension, the youths debate how far their anger can be carried into action, spurred on by rumors of a shopkeeper planning to sell prohibited tea. Their conversations grow louder, their resolve harder, as they sense that the uneasy calm may soon shatter, setting the stage for a clash that will echo far beyond the elm’s roots.
