Description

In the bitter chill of a Cape Cod winter, the Twin Rocks lighthouse stands as a lone sentinel against the relentless sea. Tobias Bassett, the aging keeper, battles icy winds and frozen glass each night, his oilskins and lantern the only companions in the howling gale. His sister Hephzibah, ever practical, watches from the kitchen, worrying about his lone labor and the dwindling resources that keep the light burning.

The story follows Tobias as he climbs the spiral stair to the lamp room, scrapes snow from the gallery, and wrestles with the stubborn frost that threatens to dim the beacon. Their banter reveals a deep bond and the quiet desperation of a family hoping for a bit of help—perhaps a hired assistant or an unexpected inheritance. Against the backdrop of storm‑tossed dunes, the narrative captures the grit, humor, and stubborn hope of those who guard the coast.
