Description

Set against the tangled forests and crumbling walls of an ancient Andean kingdom, the drama opens in the shadow of the great Temple of the Sun. Here the ruler Ataliba and his high priest wrestle with omens and the looming threat of foreign forces, while the very air seems charged with the clash of old traditions and new ambitions.

At the heart of this turmoil is Cora, the tender‑hearted “Virgin of the Sun,” whose quiet devotion draws the attention of both native priests and the arriving Spaniard Don Alonzo. As loyalties shift and whispers of betrayal stir, the first act lays a delicate groundwork of love, duty, and cultural clash, inviting listeners to step into a world where faith and power are inextricably entwined.
