Description

A modest manor house becomes the stage for a quietly tense drama, where the stern Majuri von Murten wrestles with his duties and his heart. Two hopeful priests arrive, each vying for the vacant parish, while the young widow Amalia navigates the expectations of a community that assumes she must quickly remarry. The dialogue crackles with sharp wit, as the Majuri delegates the selection to Amalia, believing her sharper mind will see what he cannot.

Behind the formal proceedings linger memories of a forbidden affection—Amalia’s secret encounters with a mysterious student who once watched her from a windowsill. The play gently explores how duty, longing, and social pressure collide when personal histories refuse to stay hidden. Listeners are drawn into a world where every polite remark may conceal deeper grievances, setting the scene for choices that will shape the lives of all involved.
