Description

On a sweltering summer night in a remote Argentine estancia, an unmanned chandelier drifts gently back and forth, setting an uneasy tone for the Daventrys’ quiet dinner. Robert, a sun‑scarred wheat farmer in his fifties, debates with his pragmatic wife Joan about the pull of old English ties versus the life they have built among strangers. Their conversation reveals a marriage balanced between practicality and lingering wistfulness, hinting that a decision looms that could reshape their future.

Beyond the dusty plains, a colourful cast of travelers—captains, French expatriates, and ambitious newcomers—converge, each carrying their own secrets and ambitions. As the characters grapple with loyalties, past grievances, and the promise of fresh beginnings, the story unfolds like a series of doors waiting to swing open. Listeners will find a richly drawn world where personal histories intersect, and the choice to stay or depart becomes the silent turnstile turning everyone’s fate.
