In a quiet apple orchard, a spirited robin hatchling named Jolly lives in a leaf‑lined nest with three siblings. He devours everything from berries to insects, but angleworms are his favorite, and his playful tricks often outwit his parents. When his father offers a juicy worm just beyond reach, Jolly grabs it and darts away, marking his first step out of the nest.
The new world is both exciting and frightening; a sudden slip sends Jolly tumbling to the ground. His mother quickly comforts him, teaching that staying silent keeps him safe from prowling cats. As he steadies himself and watches the sky, listeners can sense the beginning of his journey to learn to fly.
