Description

When a puzzling telegram arrives at a quiet Cambridge home, Donald Clark watches his father grapple with a request to visit the family’s distant Crescent Ranch in Idaho. The note, signed by an unknown Sandy McCulloch, raises doubts about the ranch’s condition after a manager’s accident, prompting the father—who has never left the house—to contemplate a sudden western trek. Their close bond turns the mystery into a shared mission, pulling the scholarly boy into an unplanned adventure.

As the Clarks prepare for the long journey, they confront practical concerns—schoolwork, household duties, and the logistics of a surprise visit—while the promise of uncovering hidden aspects of their inherited wool enterprise looms large. The narrative weaves together the rustic life of a remote ranch, the intrigue of an enigmatic stranger, and the tender dynamics of a father‑son partnership. Listeners will be drawn into the anticipation of what lies beyond the plains, set against the backdrop of early twentieth‑century America.
