Description

Set in the chaotic aftermath of the Battle of Long Island, the story unfolds in the lawless stretch of Westchester known as the “neutral ground.” Here British troops and American patriots stare each other down, while roving bands of “cowboys” and “skinners” prey on anyone who crosses their path. The landscape is a bleak mix of forests and farms, a perfect backdrop for the intrigue of a nation still finding its voice.

Enter Harvey Birch, a quiet, resourceful man recruited by the Committee of Safety to work as a spy for the fledgling United States. He must navigate shifting loyalties, outwit both enemy soldiers and ruthless outlaws, and decide how far he will go to protect his fellow patriots. As the tension builds, Birch’s cunning and courage offer a vivid glimpse into the personal sacrifices that shaped the Revolution.
