Description

A lanky motorboat named Rambler drifts in the muddy Mississippi, its cabin warm against November’s chill. Sixteen‑year‑old Clayton and Alex entertain themselves by cooking breakfast while a fierce bulldog and a playful bear cub snooze beneath the table, turning the cramped space into a lively menagerie. Their routine is interrupted when a grizzled riverman, Gid Brent, steps aboard, warning the boys that the swollen river could easily strand them in a swamp if they venture out without an experienced pilot.

Accepting Brent’s challenge, the boys tease the newcomer with their unruly pets, sparking a chaotic showdown on the deck that hints at the wild spirit of the river itself. As the men negotiate a partnership, the promise of a daring journey downriver to the Gulf looms, inviting listeners to share in the humor, camaraderie, and the unpredictable currents that lie ahead.
