Transcriber’s note:
The QUANTUM JUMPBy ROBERT WICKS - ILLUSTRATOR LLEWELLYN
Captain Brandon is a seasoned scout who has spent years charting the unknown reaches of space. Assigned to the red‑dust deserts of Sirius Three, he glides his SC9B ship above a world alien in color and atmosphere, while Earth races ahead back home. The mission is simple on paper: locate a safe landing zone for the massive Astro One and report the planet’s weather, all under the watchful eye of the ambitious Colonel Towers, who dreams of a “quantum jump” that will outpace rival powers.
As Brandon pushes his craft higher, warning lights flare and a sudden surge shakes the engine, turning a routine survey into a race against failure. The thin, hydrogen‑rich air threatens a catastrophic fire, and his radio link crackles with terse orders. With limited power and a distant crew depending on his data, he must balance caution against the relentless pressure to be the first to conquer another solar system.
