Description

The adventurous brothers, Jack and Joe, step off the Atlantic steamer and into the bustling ports of Antwerp, their caps flying as they shout three cheers for Europe. With a jumble of English, French, German and Dutch tumbling from their mouths, they set their sights on a houseboat that promises a ride toward the mountains of Switzerland. Their curiosity is sparked by towering castles that line the riverbanks, and they trade jokes about dungeons and kings while waving goodbye to the ship’s captain and cook, who have become dear friends.

As the boys glide up the Rhine, they pass crumbling fortresses perched on cliffs and lush vineyards that perfume the air. Their father spins legends of sea maidens and brave sailors, while the captain delights them with a quirky tale about a man who dreaded mice. Between the historic scenery and the playful storytelling, the Overall Boys discover a Europe that feels both familiar and enchanting, inviting listeners to share in their wide‑eyed wonder.
