In a cramped Chelsea flat, a rag‑tag circle of doctors, writers, and night‑shift workers gathers each Sunday at nine o’clock. Led by the quick‑witted Bindle, who delights in spinning “little jokes,” they decide to formalise their informal storytelling sessions into what they call “The Night Club.” The founding members—Dick Little, the overworked physician; Jocelyn Dare, a sharp‑tongued author; Jack Carruthers, a cynical commentator; and Tom Little, Dick’s brother—bring a mix of humor, rivalry and camaraderie to the table.
The club quickly becomes a refuge from the grind of hospital wards and literary deadlines, where every meeting is a chance to out‑tell the last. Rules are debated half‑heartedly, jokes fly, and even the gruff old general downstairs can’t help but listen. Listeners are invited into this lively, slightly chaotic world of witty repartee, where the simple act of sharing a story reveals the characters’ hidden ambitions and the quirky spirit of post‑war London.
