Description

A sun‑lit July day bathed the charming bay of Weymouth in golden light, the sea a sparkling ribbon of blue as children chased waves and elegant yachts fluttered their flags. The promenade thrummed with life—band music, bustling bathing‑van vendors, and the salty scent of the ocean filling the air. Amid this lively tableau walks nineteen‑year‑old Edward Damerell, a sturdy, sun‑kissed youth with keen grey eyes and three years of seafaring experience, accompanied by his retired naval lieutenant father and sister.

Edward’s affection for the sea is matched only by a sense of duty inherited from his father’s distinguished service. When a valuable merchantman disappears from the harbor, the young sailor finds himself drawn into a search that will test his courage, his knowledge of the coast, and the bonds of family. The story unfolds against the vivid backdrop of Victorian seaside life, promising a blend of adventure, mystery, and the timeless pull of the ocean.
