A restless boy known as Little Jacket has always felt more at home on a dock than in a classroom. By the time he’s fifteen, his love of rope, sail and salty air convinces his family to let him join a merchant ship bound for the East Indies. His quick wit and eager hands win him the respect of the crew, and the open ocean quickly becomes the world he’s been waiting for.
The voyage proceeds smoothly until a sudden storm drives the vessel onto hidden cliffs, shattering the ship and scattering the sailors into the surf. Jacky survives the crash, washed ashore on a strange, rocky beach, and discovers that he is not alone. As the tide recedes, the promise of a mysterious island beckons, hinting at the unexpected adventures that await the last of the Huggermuggers.

A lively voice from the Transcendentalist circle, he moved easily between poetry, painting, and satire. His work blends spiritual reflection with an artist’s eye for landscape, travel, and everyday wonder.
