Description

A wandering scholar returns to Cambridge in the tumult of 1642, drawn back into a world of academic rivalry, shifting loyalties, and the looming conflict between King and Parliament. Disguised in ever‑changing attire, he navigates the bustling taverns and lecture halls, observing the city’s transformation and the fierce debates that shape a nation on the brink of civil war.

His curiosity soon turns toward the remote village of Harby, where rumors of a mysterious lady and a contested inn stir his imagination. As he journeys through the rolling countryside, the traveler’s sharp wit and keen eye capture the clash of ideals and the personal ambitions that ripple through both the court and the countryside. The story unfolds with vivid historical detail, offering a glimpse of a society divided while hinting at the deeper intrigues awaiting him in the heart of Harby.
