CHAPTER X A NIGHT OF TRAGEDY
In the quiet of an old oak‑ paneled drawing‑room, a seasoned appraiser named Mr. Jarrad surveys a modest collection of porcelain, pewter and a solitary portrait, his eyes reading the lives of the owners as easily as a ledger. He spends his career estimating the value of other people’s belongings, convinced that the very things they keep shape their destinies. A younger colleague, Dawkins, watches with a mixture of curiosity and skepticism as Jarrad muses on how objects can both anchor and control us.
When Jarrad is called to evaluate the estate of the recently deceased Mr. Thursby, he discovers a curious jade figurine—referred to in whispers as the “Jade God.” The artifact’s unsettling history and the cryptic remarks of its former owners hint at a hidden motive that pulls Jarrad deeper into a web of secrets, old grudges, and unexpected dangers. Listeners are invited to follow his methodical mind as it confronts a mystery that may prove that some things are worth far more than their price tag.
