Description

In the fading light of an 1800s Missouri frontier, two teenage boys—Fred Linden, the sturdy son of a seasoned trapper, and Terence Clark, a bright orphan—set out on an urgent hunt for a missing cow that vanished the night before. Their search carries them through the rugged Ozark wilderness, a landscape of dense woods, hidden caves, and the lingering echo of Indian trails, where hunters endure months of isolation to bring home prized furs. As they trek deeper, the boys confront the raw challenges of frontier life, from unforgiving weather to the strained supplies of a fledgling settlement that clusters around a solitary blockhouse.

The story paints a vivid picture of early American pioneer spirit, weaving together the camaraderie of youthful adventure with the stark realities of a world still untamed. Listeners will feel the crunch of autumn leaves underfoot, hear the distant call of distant traplines, and share in the tentative hope that the lost cow—and perhaps something more—might still be found before night fully falls.
