IN THE RANGES
A determined contractor known for his iron will is summoned to confront a strange obstacle in western Canada—a swamp that seems to have no bottom. With his reputation built on railroad feats and political connections, he refuses to let any natural mystery stall his progress. The story opens as he dispatches a terse telegram, demanding answers and setting in motion a journey that will test both his temper and his ingenuity.
Accompanying him is his spirited daughter, Ida, who has brought a handful of English friends to experience the capital’s bustle. Their presence adds a touch of social intrigue, contrasting the gritty world of railways with genteel conversation. As the party heads west, the contractor’s resolve is clear, but the swamp’s enigma promises challenges that could reshape more than just a construction site.
