Description

A slow‑moving river cuts through a sun‑kissed valley, its banks lined with alders and golden cornfields, while a pontoon bridge teems with weary engineers taking a brief reprieve from the heat. Lieutenant Richard Brandon stands at the curve’s apex, proud of the structure he helped shape, his mind tuned to the subtle strengths and weaknesses that only a trained eye can sense. Though respected for his competence, Dick’s modest confidence masks a lingering naiveté, especially when it comes to matters beyond steel and stone.

The routine calm shatters when the adjutant questions a small but conspicuous shift in the bridge’s design, forcing Brandon to justify his instinctive adjustment. As his explanations wobble under the weight of military hierarchy, an inner tension rises between duty, pride, and the desire to earn trust. Listeners will find themselves drawn into a world where engineering precision meets the fragile politics of a young officer navigating his first real test.
