Description

In the spring of 1870, a widowed duke finds his world overturned by the sudden death of his beloved wife. While his younger son prepares for life at Trinity and the elder son is being positioned for a seat in Parliament, the duke is left to confront a loneliness he has never known, his once‑steady confidence shaken. His three children—two reckless boys and a beautiful, inexperienced daughter—become both his greatest burden and his only link to a life that still moves forward.

As the family settles at Matching Priory, the duke wrestles with how to guide his daughter through the treacherous waters of society and marriage, and how to steer his sons away from the same temptations that once ensnared their mother’s brother. The story follows their attempts to balance personal desire with duty, set against the rigid expectations of Victorian England. Listeners will be drawn into the intimate portrait of a household trying to rebuild itself amid grief, ambition, and the quiet hopes of a new generation.
