About the author
Born in London on April 24, 1815, Anthony Trollope became one of the great English novelists of the Victorian era. He also worked for many years in the postal service, and that practical, observant side of his life helped shape the grounded, lived-in worlds of his fiction.
Trollope wrote with remarkable energy, producing dozens of novels as well as travel writing, short fiction, and memoir. He is especially remembered for the Chronicles of Barsetshire and the Palliser series, novels that explore church life, politics, ambition, marriage, and money with warmth, humor, and sharp social observation.
He died on December 6, 1882, but his work has never really gone out of fashion. Readers still return to him for his memorable characters, moral complexity, and the feeling that in his pages, ordinary life is never ordinary at all.
