Description

In a quiet country village, young Sally Brown spends her days listening to the stories of the Mulvaney family, a bustling brood stuck in a cramped, run‑down part of town. Though her mother and brother dismiss her hopes as naïve, Sally believes that a change of scenery could lift the children's spirits and give them a chance at a proper Christmas. Her vivid imagination turns the idea of bringing the Mulvaneys to the countryside into a mission she quietly nurtures.

When a letter arrives from a local dressmaker asking for extra hands and promising school for any children who come, Sally sees an opening to make her wish a reality. She shares the news with her brother Alfred, whose indifferent whistling masks a growing curiosity, and together they begin to picture the Mulvaney children wandering the village lanes. The promise of fresh air, new friends, and holiday celebrations hangs in the air, setting the stage for a gentle adventure that will test the limits of hope and generosity.
