Description

In a rain‑soaked town that’s still buzzing with the promise of a new baseball season, a group of Scranton High seniors gathers on the grassy campus to chase a pennant. Guided by a Princeton‑educated coach and led by the level‑headed captain Hugh Morgan, the squad—Owen Dugdale, “Just” Smith, K.K. Kinkaid, Horatio Juggens and catcher Thad Stevens—spends every spare moment perfecting bunts, curves and fastballs. Their banter and friendly rivalry paint a vivid picture of teenage ambition, small‑town pride, and the simple joy of a well‑timed swing.

As the league’s powerhouse teams from Belleville and Allandale loom, the boys confront more than just opposing pitchers—rising tensions with the town bully, a mysterious newcomer, and personal doubts threaten to upend their practice. Hugh’s promise to his mother and the tight bond among the friends set the stage for choices that will test honor as much as batting averages. Listeners are invited to follow the early training days, the camaraderie forged in rain, and the first clues of the challenges that lie ahead.
