In the quiet northern valley, the whole community is thrown into a frantic search when little Ally disappears. From the gardener and the house‑man to the loggers and the aunts, everyone sprints through strawberry patches, hollow hills and winding streams, each convinced the bright‑eyed girl is somewhere nearby—perhaps chasing bear cubs, sleeping under a bush, or even being whisked away by the mysterious fairies that locals whisper about.
The valley’s residents are a tight‑knit group of siblings and caretakers who have come from far‑off lands, now bound together by loss and hope. As they comb the slopes of Blue Top and listen for the faint echo of Ally’s laughter, the story hints at an old legend of the “Children of the Hill” and a secret adventure that may change the whole valley. Listeners are invited to follow the earnest, heartfelt quest and discover what the children of this secluded place might be capable of when courage meets imagination.

A popular 19th-century American writer, she brought Gothic intensity, psychological drama, and vivid description to stories, poems, and novels. Her work ranged widely, but she is still especially remembered for bold, atmospheric fiction that stood apart from the conventions of her time.
