Description

In a small Midwestern schoolroom, Jim McGovern wrestles with a stubborn math problem while a mischievous note slides across the desk, summoning him to a secret rendezvous at the crossroads. Joined by his friends Tom Wagstaff and Billy Waylett, the trio slips away after class, slipping over a fence and disappearing into the trees to discuss a plan that has been simmering for weeks.

Their conversation reveals a restless yearning to escape the increasingly harsh lessons of Mr. Stearns and to chase the romantic notion of heading west to confront the “Injuns” they’ve heard about in town tales. With stolen watches turned into a pocketful of cash, a newly purchased revolver, and a shared sense of daring, the boys feel the thrill of rebellion and the promise of adventure. Listeners will be drawn into the boys’ youthful scheming, their whispered vows, and the palpable anticipation of a journey that could change everything—if they can stay one step ahead of the adults watching.
