Good-Bye Summer
A fashionable rabbit named Mr. Bunnikins-Bunny lives in Rabbitsville, where his impeccable coats, feathered hats and silk socks make him the envy of the Cotton‑Tail Club. After marrying the charming Miss Primrose Featherball, they settle into a cozy hollow‑tree home and raise two children—well‑mannered daughter Rosamund and a mischievous son, Bobtail, who constantly tests the limits of his mother’s patience. When the family decides a summer in the mountains might improve Mr. Bunnikins’s health, Bobtail promises to be perfectly behaved in exchange for a chance to join the adventure.
The Bunnikins gather their friends, the Gray‑Squirrels, and load the trusty donkey Neddy with an amusingly over‑stocked cart that holds everything from a feather‑bed to a tiny folding umbrella. Mrs. Bunnikins keeps a firm hand on the load, while Mr. Bunnikins fusses over extra socks, a parasol and a bottle of “Ready Relief.” Their journey begins with a lively departure, a sudden reminder of something forgotten, and an impromptu picnic on a stone table dressed with ferns—setting the stage for a summer full of quirky mishaps and gentle family fun.
