Nibbles Poppelty-Poppett is a plump little mouse with bright black eyes and a silky gray coat, living with his mother and siblings in a cozy cottage by the river. After his father's untimely loss to a cheese‑lured trap, his mother works tirelessly in a tiny shop, baking treats beloved by the forest’s squirrels, rabbits, and other mice. Determined to ease her burden, Nibbles decides to set out on his own, waving goodbye with a red‑bandanna bundle of his clothes slung over a stick.
His journey leads him to a shady elm where a sign reads “The Guinea Pigs’ Rest,” and the hungry mouse hopes to find a warm meal. Inside, a rotund guinea pig snores in a comfy chair, and Nibble’s polite request for dinner awakens a grumpy host who mentions a mysterious “Salamander” that might satisfy his appetite. Undeterred, Nibbles explores the quiet inn, searching for the elusive dish while meeting the curious guinea‑pig family tending to their newborn.
