Description

In the rain‑soaked night of the Western Front, two young lieutenants slip from the safety of their American trench into the darkness that separates them from the German lines. Hal Paine and Chester Crawford, veterans of several armies before joining the U.S. Expeditionary Force, bring with them a mixture of restless experience and a makeshift piece of equipment that could turn the tide of a silent raid. Their mission is simple yet perilous: gather intelligence while avoiding the ever‑watchful sentinels that guard the sleeping soldiers.

The pair move with quiet determination, cutting through barbed wire and planting a small wooden box that holds a coil of wire—an improvised listening device that could reveal the enemy’s plans. As they creep back toward their own lines, the hush of the battlefield is broken only by whispered exchanges and the distant, muted rumble of artillery. Their boldness hints at the larger struggles awaiting them on the scarred fields of Flanders and beyond.
