In the bustling streets of early‑19th‑century Montreal, a seasoned advocate—sharp‑tongued, flamboyantly stubborn, and forever chasing variety— finds himself confronting a trembling, middle‑aged woman named Mona. Their heated exchange erupts over a tangled mix of legal duty and personal longing, with the lawyer’s flamboyant tirade on marriage painting the institution as a comedy of contradictions. His voice swings between bitter sarcasm and a lingering, almost tender, curiosity about the lives he touches.
Beyond the drawing‑room drama, the advocate’s world widens to include the bright‑eyed maid, Amanda, whose future hangs in the balance of his protective, if conflicted, affection. As he juggles looming court cases with the simmering passions of those around him, the story teeters between the rigid expectations of society and the chaotic cravings of the heart, promising listeners a glimpse into a moral landscape where law, love, and personal ambition collide.
